The mission of the Public Association “Progres prin Alternativa” (Progress through Alternative) is to contribute to improving people’s quality of life through the implementation of innovative projects in the fields of health, education, and social protection, tailored to the national context.

The Association was a pioneer in the Republic of Moldova in integrating psychologists and social workers into perinatal care services during 2001–2002, contributing to the development of a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to maternal and child health.

Since 2014, the Association has implemented a range of actions aimed at preventing fetal alcohol disorders. These initiatives were launched with the support of ”Médecins du Monde” organization and have focused on advocacy, awareness-raising, and strengthening professional practices.

As a result of the Association’s advocacy efforts, in 2018 national legislation was amended to require producers to place a warning symbol on the labels of alcoholic beverages, including beer, prohibiting alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

During 2025–2026, in partnership with the UNICEF Office in Moldova, the Association implemented the project “Opportunities in the prophylaxis of fetal alcohol disorders in Chișinău municipality” (STAF pilot project).
