Big news from Norway
EUFASD alliance is proud to announce that our board member Jon Skranes at Sørlandet Hospital has been Awarded The King’s Medal of Merit.
Pediatrician Jon Skranes, Section Head at HABU (Department of Child and Adolescent Neurology) at Sørlandet Hospital Arendal, will be awarded The King’s Medal of Merit for his long-standing and impressive contributions to pediatrics, academia, and rehabilitation. Skranes was Norway’s first professor in the field of pediatric habilitation. In addition to his clinical work, Skranes has spent decades researching early brain development in premature infants at St. Olavs Hospital and NTNU in Trondheim. He also helped establish the Nordic region’s first competence center for children with congenital substance exposure, located at the hospital in Arendal.
"This is highly deserved. Jon Skranes has been a pioneer both in the Agder region and nationwide. He has done, and continues to do, a fantastic job in raising awareness about the damage various substances inflict on unborn life. His research is absolutely central to the prevention of and assistance for children with developmental disorders, including those resulting from maternal substance abuse," says Acting Clinic Director at Sørlandet Hospital Arendal, Susanne Hernes.
