Fokus FAS 2 Stockholm

Fokusfas Flicka

The Fokus FAS project is an initiative from the FAS association in Sweden to contribute to increased knowledge within Swedish healthcare about children born with alcohol related birth defects. Two very successful Fokus FAS conferences have been arranged so far, the latest in Stockholm on November 14th, with more than 250 participants from all over Sweden. The conference could also be followed via live streaming.

From the UK came Professor Raja Mukherjee, psychiatrist and founder of the only specialist clinic in the UK that also examines adults with FASD. Raja Mukherjee shared experiences and lessons learned that we in Sweden can benefit from, among other things to give people with FASD better access to investigation and diagnosis.

Sweden's most reputable FAS experts in areas such as child neurology, child psychiatry and clinical physiology contributed to a highly interesting program that contained both new research findings and clinical experiences. Parents talked about their experiences and great challenges of caring for children with FAS, together with an adult woman with FAS who shared what it's like to live with alcohol damage herself.
